In this post I recommend you to use those activities to apply writing.
Beginning
Spell simple words.
1. Give a list of sentences to the students with a letter missing, example: Febuary is the second month of the yer.
Use simple punctuation.
2. Give a text to students. The text does not have punctuation. Students have to analyze the text and write the right quotation mark where is necessary.
Low beginning
Write familiar simple words and short phrases from dictations
3. The teacher reads a text and students have to write as many words or phrases as they can.
Write some simple phrases in simple sentences.
4.Divide the class in two groups. A member of each group goes to the board, the teachers dictates some words or phrases and the student has to write. The person who writes first is the winner.
Low intermediate
Writing making predictions
5. Ask to students to choose a time in the future and make prediction about how their lives will be. Example, In five years I will have a car.
Association game.
6. Say a word and ask to students create an association chain, example: airport: travel, holidays, fun, party and space, etc. Then, ask the students to write a story by using all of the previous words.
High intermediate
Story reconstruction
7. The teacher gives pieces of paper with phrases or sentences, the students have to write a story with that information.
Dictation
8. The students fold a blank piece of paper “hamburger” style (Up/down) 4 times. Unfold and they have a nice 8 lines piece of paper. Teacher speaks 8 sentences, repeating each several times as the students write. The students record their answers on the board and correct.
Story Rewriting
9. The teacher reads a story, or the class listens to an audio story. After, students make a story board (just fold a blank page so you have 8 squares) and draw pictures. Then, they write the story based on those pictures.
Visualization
10. The students close their eyes and the teacher describes a scene. Play some nice background music. The students then write and describe the scene they imagined, sharing their scene afterwards with the class or a classmate.
